The Return of the Gargoyles

Four chimera once sat atop a seven-story art-deco building at the corner of State & Main Street, the previous home of Harvey & Lewis Opticians. The historic building was demolished in the mid-eighties, but the gargoyles were saved. These four crouched figures, each representing one element of the optical trade (binoculars, sunglasses, a camera and a broken pair of glasses) returned to downtown Hartford for permanent display, thanks to our partnership with Harvey & Lewis and the Connecticut Historical Society.
