Friday Five: What’s New

Downtown Hartford is full of wonderful, locally-owned, independent businesses like Hartford Prints, the Greenway MarketHartford Sweat, Naturally Cats and Dogs, Alchemy Juice Bar, Sarah’s Coffee, Blue State CoffeeThe Camera Bar, Morneult’s Stackpole Moore Tryon, Capitol Spirits, to name more than a few. But wait… there’s more – small and large businesses arriving downtown, that is.  Here are five recently opened or opening soon establishments to add to the list of places to shop and dine and exercise in our Capital City.

  1.  Chango Rosa Tacos
Chango Rosa Tacos brings flavor and life into Union Station. Their menu is an incredible fusion of the smoked bbq you know and love from Bear’s Smokehouse and authentic Latin American street food. Their extensive cocktail menu will have you feeling like you’re sipping drinks in Mexico and the fantastic atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to catch up with friends.
  2. CVS at 777 Main
A small move makes a big difference for one of the bigger businesses on our list. By moving from 750 to 777 Main Street, CVS now offers more of your everyday needs in a brighter and larger location.
  3. Barnes & Noble
UConn is coming to Hartford and bringing with it a brand new Barnes & Noble. It won’t just be textbooks and Huskies gear (though we’re pretty excited about that), it’ll be a full-service bookstore, with all of the best sellers your heart desires, slated to open this fall.
  4. WIP Fitness
WIP Fitness is an excellent fitness studio offering boot camp workout classes with some amazing coaches and a great community of workout companions. Their Hartford location at 55 Pratt Street will be their third, adding to their two current fitness studios in West Hartford and Avon, and they’re offering a pretty great intro special. (If you want to experience WIP sooner you can also catch them at the Riverfront Recapture’s WIP Into Shape workout, Tuesday nights at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, for free.)
  5. Bumski’s Donuts
The Bumski’s Donuts truck is stationed in State House Square five days a week and is a very short walk from the Riverfront and Pratt Street. The smell of these donuts in State House Square is heaven, and believe it or not; they taste even better than they smell. Plus, a WIP Fitness workout Tuesday night earns you a donut on Wednesday morning.
